le Masciare

In Irpinia’s ancient tradition, Le Masciare are the witches who protect the crops by practicing magic to dominate the forces of nature. With these sorceresses in mind Caterina Martone founds the company in 2000, bringing life again to the ancient family home that was abandoned in the countryside of Paternopoli.
In the early years Le Masciare makes a name for itself as a producer of excellence in Ravece and Marinese oils, produced organically in the olive grove planted by Caterina’s greatgrandfather in 1820. In the following years the aglianico vineyards are planted on the Barbassano hill, and old childhood friends - enchanted by the Irpinia countryside - become involved.
Among them Erik den Dunnen, Dutch, who in 2009 moved to Italy with his wife following his passion for wine. Today they manage the winery, which grows its own aglianico, fiano and greco grapes.
