Ronsel do Sil

Ronsel do Sil is located in Parada de Sil (Ourense), in the Denominación de Origen Ribeira Sacra

The winery unites human and family history, nature, respect, architecture, craftsmanship design, landscape... everything reflected in each one of the wines, made with indigenous varietals through natural viticulture and sincere winemaking. Ronsel do Sil has a philosophy based on natural, 'heroic' viticulture, with the maximum respect for nature, enhancing the region´s authenticity and uniqueness. Our motto "The future of the past. History, authenticity and uniqueness in every glass" shows our desire to bring the breathtaking landscape of Ribeira Sacra and its ancient medieval monasteries and varietals to our client's table.

The owners of the winery, the family Yravedra Somarriba, María José and Felipe, have joined their professional careers of Enology and Architecture, to the service of Ronsel do Sil’s wines and vineyards. Gabriel Yravedra, Maria Jose's father, internationally renowned enologist for his big legislative contributions to the Spanish wine world and a specialist of the Denominations of Origin in Spain, pours all his knowledge to enhance the indigenous varietals of this region. The couple's daughters all contribute to the development of the winery as well in a tri-generational family project.

Ronsel do Sil cultivates ten hectares of vineyards, part owned by us and part leased to winegrowers of the region. The totality of the land is harvested by hand in the steep bancales (old terraces built by the ancient Romans), characteristic of Ribeira Sacra. The main varietal cultivated in our domain is Mencía, represented in our most characteristic wine, Vel'Uveyra Mencía. We also explore monovarietals of rare, indigenous varietals, such as Merenzao, Brancellao and Caíño (red grapes); and Godello, Treixadura and Dona Branca (white grapes), mainly producing young wines, some of them with brief aging in French oak barrels.

Recently, a garden with a wide range of different types of indigenous Galician varietals has been planted at the perimeter of our wine cellar, on the banks of the Sil River for research, development and innovation of the local traditions of the Ribeira Sacra.
