Torre Bisenzio

A unique family owned estate, Torre Bisenzio sits atop a hillside with arresting views across Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. This enviable position has strong historical roots. Indeed, the beautifully restored Tower or Torre, once a customs post on the border of the Papal States and the Republic of Florence, is a glimpse into 13th century history and forms the jaw dropping focal point of the estate. The philosophy of Torre Bisenzio is clear - to produce boutique, authentic and environmentally sustainable Umbrian wines. The estate has been organically certified since 2001 and now working biodynamically in the vineyards, very much believe the future lies in this holistic approach.
Much of the water on the property is sourced from underground wells, and the electricity produced by solar panels on the barns.

The land and soil
Our soil comprises sedimentary clay, gravel sands and alluvial silt with marine fossils (sea shells and oysters), originally ocean-floor from the mid Pliocene period (5.3 to 2.6 million years ago). Our most important work happens in these soils where across five hectares we grow indigenous varieties Sangiovese, Grechetto and Canaiolo as well as internationally recognised Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Our wines reflect the incredible location in which they are grown, matched by our approach to protect and enhance our local environment.
