Domaine Charles Fahrer

We are winegrowers since 8 generations and we are situated in Orschwiller in the center of Alsace. Our 10 hectares family domain extended on 40 vine plots which grow along the famous castle Haut Koenigsbourg. We produce and sell the seven varieties of grapes as well as the designation grand cru Praelatenberg : “Colline des prélats.” This bears testimony to vineyard monks who brought out more than a thousand years ago the qualities of its granitic and gneiss slopes.
These wines grow into models of harmony, balance and concentration. As for all good things they require time to be born and love to flourish. During the exceptional years, we produce a late harvest and a “selection of grains nobles”. Our vineyard offers a great variety of soils and wines which are rich in aromas and complex. Its privileged exposure produces high quality wines. The vineyard is led according to environmentally respectful methods. The soil is covered with grass and worked many time. The treatments are reduced to a minimum. As of the 26 November 2016, we have the certification HVE (high environmental value) Since 2020 the estate is in conversion to organic farming.
We harvest by hand. The harvest extends over several weeks witch enables to have ripe grapes. The whole grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press to preserve the aromas and the complexity of each grape variety and soil. The juices are fermented at a low temperature. The wine are filtered and put into the bottles.
