La Rajade

La Rajade is situated in the eastern slopes of Friuli in the Judrio valley, along the Slovenian border, immediately close to the first forests.
This is the furthest northern part of the Collio where nature dominates and marks the rhythm of time. The company’s name itself, which means a sun ray, says much about us.
Just as a sun ray is the start of life for a grape plant and for all its surrounding nature, we too, in the same way, seriously dedicating ourselves to the respect of nature, reflect our passion for this reality so, whoever knows us, really understands what the warmth of La Rajade means.
Collio is the geographic hilly area that is situated between the Isonzo river and its right affluent, the Judrio river, a suggestive strip of land made up of small hills, not more than 200 mt. high and which continues along the border between Friuli and Slovenia, from Gorizia to the high mountains.
This little part of Friuli Venzia Giulia has always been considered amongst the most favourable areas for vineyards considering its rich land and unique and suitable micro climate.
The hills are in fact protected in the North by the Giulian prealps and in the South by the Adriatic sea, only a few kilometres away from each other.
The Collio land is made up mainly of a mixture of soft sandstone and malm soils. “Ponka” is the definition in the friulan language.
"Ponca" is a stratification of light gray-brown marne-sandstone, of Eocene origin, rich in calcium carbonate, essential nutrition for the vine and which gives the wines mineral, aromatic and great sapidity.
These kind of soil, rich in minerals, can be easily crumbled into scaly fragments - as a result of atmospheric phenomena - to dissolve in clay soil.
The goal we pursue every day is to enhance our territory by enclosing it in a wine that expresses the elegant, mineral, fruity and floral complexities that evolve and complement each other during the tasting, creating a network of persistence and flavors.
Our task is to take care of all the phases: in winter with pruning, in summer with the management of the leaf and the bunch up to the harvest, which is all done manually in boxes.
The vinifications are then aimed at maintaining and above all enhancing the quality of the grapes we get from our vineyards.
Each vinification is conducted separately and in different way depending on the origin area of the grapes, only one month before bottling the different tanks are combined in the right proportions.
Modern technologies and equipment introduced with modernization in 1999, allow us to work in the respect and enhancement of the quality of the grapes obtained in the vineyard.
Our goal is the meticulous control in fermentation and refinement for both white and red wine making.
